TO STANDFAST.
Thy spirit Standfast, let me share.
In vacant time who finely writes,
With thee for once I'll nobly dare,
To sing the man preheminent in types.
. . . [22 lines]
And only thou Papinian's praise,
Shall dare in vacant time to sing
"God prosper long our noble King,
"Our lives and safety's all;"
And grant that thou may'st better sing,
Or never sing at all.
